Christmas Comes Early for a Bucks County Company

Workers at a Bucks County company were surprised at the recent arrival of a check to pay a debt the company had long written off.

KYW's Mike DeNardo reports Byers' Choice is a Chalfont firm that makes Christmas caroler figurines. Company VP Jeff Byers says a few weeks ago, a cashier's check for $2000 showed up:

"We received this envelope with the check and this kind note from this sweet old lady that she wanted to repay that bill that she had been thinking about for the last 20 years."

There was no name on the note. The woman had sold her failing gift shop in 1991 and was unable to pay for an order of figurines.

Byers says he thought about sifting through old accounts receivable records to find the woman's identity -- but then decided to respect her efforts to remain anonymous.

What'll happen to the money? Byers says the company will give it to charity -- preferably one that teaches children about business ethics.
