Chester County Teen Sentenced To A Year In Jail For Role In Deadly Crash
NORTH COVENTRY Twp., Pa. (CBS) -- A North Coventry teenager who admitted that he was speeding and driving recklessly before a crash that killed two Pottstown High School teenagers will spend at least eleven and a half months behind bars.
Thomas Kocon told the victim's families he feels terrible and never meant for any of this to happen. The 19-year-old Chester County teen was sentenced to 11 and a half to 23 months behind bars and five years probation for the December, 2009 crash in Upper Pottsgrove, Montgomery County that killed 16-year-old Andrea Antonio Harris and 15-year-old Breanne Brothers.
Prosecutor Samantha Cauffman says the horrific crash should send a message to teen drivers.
"He had his hands off the steering wheel while traveling almost 20 miles over the speed limit on a highway in the middle of the night, all of these things combined show that he wasn't paying attention to what he was doing and tragedy resulted from that," said Cauffman.
Three others in the car were injured in the one vehicle crash.
Defense attorney Adam Sager says his client is devastated by what happened and there were no winners in this case, just losers.
