Can Trump Walk Back Some Of Divisive Rhetoric Spewed On Campaign Trail?
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- While post-election protests have erupted in the streets in opposition to the President-elect, some academics are examining whether Donald Trump will be able to transition to a president for all of the people.
Maurice Hall is chair of Villanova University's Communications Department. He says the protests, and the vandalism at schools that we are seeing can only be countered if Trump walks back some of his rhetoric.
"There is an enormous sense of responsibility for him as the president, an enormous sense of responsibility that we should attribute to our elected leaders to really refrain, to help heal, to help use different kinds of rhetoric to change what the outcome of this election has produced, but it is enormously important that he do that himself."
Hall also says the White House is so complicated, he believes Trump will find out that promises made on the campaign trail don't always translate into policy.
