Buckingham Township officer shoots, injures man who crashed van, threatened neighbors with weapon, DA says
Authorities are investigating after a person was shot by police in Buckingham Township, Pennsylvania, Saturday afternoon, the Bucks County District Attorney's Office said.
A man driving a van crashed into a parked car on the 4800 block of Redfield Road around 4 p.m. Saturday and then "aggressively pursued neighbors with a weapon ... while shouting politically and religiously charged statements," according to the DA's office.
A Buckingham Township officer arrived at the scene and fired a taser, but "it had no effect on the man," and the man "continued to advance" toward police, the DA's account of the incident says. The officer fired his weapon and then rendered aid to the man, who was then transported to the hospital. The man was still hospitalized on Sunday, the DA's office said, adding that officials expect to file charges when he is released.
An investigation found that the suspect was driving recklessly on Redfield Road before he crashed into the parked car. Police found two weapons on the man, the DA's office said.
All police-involved shootings within Bucks County are investigated by the county detectives and reviewed by the district attorney.
