BRISTOL, Pa. (CBS) -- A deadly shooting at a township supervisors' meeting in the Poconos earlier this month (see related story) has prompted at least one local municipality to increase security at its meetings.

Bristol Township has a post on its web site indicating that a police officer and walk-through metal detector will be stationed at the entrance to the municipal building in time for Thursday night's Council meeting.

It says all bags and persons will be subject to a search, and advises people to leave all unnecessary bags and other items at home or locked in a vehicle.

It's expected the heightened security will remain for future meetings.  Township officials say there have been no specific threats and the move is preventive.

Last week, a gunman opened fire inside a supervisors' meeting in Ross Township (Monroe County), Pa., killing three people.
