Blue Cross RiverRink Reopens For 18th Season With Free Concert
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia's own outdoor skating rink re-opened Friday for its 18th season.
The reopening of the Blue Cross RiverRink at Penn's Landing was greeted with screams.
Not for the prospect of open-air skating, but for the ribbon-cutter and headliner: 14-year-old Australian pop singer Cody Simpson.
"I'm Cody Simpson's biggest fan, I just love him so much -- he's so hot -- and we are gonna get married forever and ever and ever and ever. And I'm really sick, and I came here anyway because I love him. Obviously -- I don't have a voice, but I'm his biggest fan," one extremely excited attendee said.
In fact, about a thousand future Mrs. Simpsons turned out--and in some cases, camped out--to see their idol.
One fan from York said she arrived at 2 a.m.
And were fans like these planning to skate?
"No. Yeah. Gonna try to. Maybe after," a chorus of voices answered.
