Best Places To Watch The Mummers

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - With pretty good weather forcast tomorrow for the Mummer's strut up Broad Street, you may be planning on checking it out. But where are the best spots?

Parks and Recreation deputy commissioner Leo Dignam says one new twist near the Broad and Washington viewing area will be activities at the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts. So if your children get a little antsy during the long parade, he suggests you check out those talented CAPA students. "They're going to bring their kids in for dancing and singing.'

Assistant parade director, Jim Marino, also directs the Broad Street Run, so, he says, "Knowing Broad Street is my job."

He knows all the best vantage points to catch your favorite string band performances. "At Broad and Washington, we have Broad and Shunk, outside of Methodist Hospital near Ritner and Wolf, the Union League, and we've added Pine Street again, this year.'

Viewing is free all along the three-mile route, except for the bleachers around City Hall. Tickets are $19, and are available at the Fairmount Park Welcome Center, at 16th Street & JFK Boulevard or the Independence Visitor Center, at 6th and Market Streets.
