Bicyclist killed after being hit by car in West Philadelphia; suspect sought
Police are searching for a driver who struck and killed a bicyclist in West Philadelphia and fled the scene on Tuesday morning.
A black Dodge Charger and a black Chrysler were speeding north on Belmont Avenue as they approached the Avenue of the Republic in Fairmount Park shortly before 10 a.m., police said. At this time, the bicyclist was riding east on Avenue of the Republic when police said one of the cars struck the man.
The crash impact sent the bicyclist flying into the street, critically injuring him. The man on the bike was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 10:30 a.m.
As they responded to the hit-and-run crash, investigators saw a black Dodge Charger parked on the 3200 block of Sedgley Drive with several males checking out the front end of the car, according to police.
Officers approached the males and eventually seized the car for further examination.
Police found the Dodge Charger, and it was towed for investigation.
No arrests have been made in the investigation. The Crash Investigation Division will oversee the case.
