Annual 'Get In The Game' Fundraiser To Take Place Sunday
By Mike DeNardo
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz headlines a charity event Sunday to raise money for college-bound public school students.
"This is our one big fundraiser of the year," says Philadelphia Futures executive Director Joan Mazzotti.
It's a star-studded bowling and billiards tournament called "Get in the Game." The event raises money for Philadelphia Futures, a nonprofit that helps low-income students go to college and succeed once they get there.
Mazzotti says this is the third year Carlos Ruiz is serving as host.
"Last year when we introduced Carlos to the student that he is sponsoring in the program, you could tell that he was very moved," he explains.
Chooch's teammates and local celebrities are expected to take part. The sold-out Sunday night event at North Bowl in Northern Liberties begins at 6:30 p.m. provided the Phils day game doesn't go into extra innings.
