Actress Holly Robinson Peete Visits Center For Autism In Philadelphia

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Actress Holly Robinson Peete, who hails from Philadelphia, returned to her hometown to read to children with autism and donate tablets to the Center For Autism.

"These tablets are something we're really proud of at the HollyRod Foundation. They are made by Puzzle Piece. Essentially they come preloaded with communication apps and right now it's very important, especially for verbally challenged kids, to be able to communicate," said Robinson Peete.

She says autism is now said to impact one in 45 children, among them, one of her own.

"Some of the early signs of autism are a lack the lack of eye contact and a lack of social interaction. That's what I saw with my son. His inability to connect with his twin sister and he was diagnosed at three, but at two I knew something," she said.

(Kuznits:) "Moms always know."

"Moms have a gut that is undeniable," she said.
