5 Prospects Involved In Reported Hamels Deal

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's the end of an era, as the Phillies have reportedly sent Cole Hamels, along with left-handed reliever Jake Diekman and cash, to the Texas Rangers for veteran pitcher Matt Harrison and a slew of prospects.

Let's learn about the five prospects and hopefully, the next wave of great Phillies.

Jake Thompson, 21, right-handed pitcher

Thompson, who throws a wide variety of pitches, is the No. 60 overall prospect according to MLB.com, and the Rangers' top pitching prospect according to Baseball America. In 17 double-A starts this season, Thompson is 6-6 with a 4.72 ERA.

Nick Williams, 21, outfielder 

Williams, the No. 64 overall prospect according to MLB.com and the No. 4 Rangers prospect according to Baseball America, is hitting.299/.357/.479 in 97 games this season, his first full season in double-A. Williams added 13 homers and 45 RBIs.

Jorge Alfaro, 22, catcher 

Alfaro is the No. 69 overall prospect according to MLB.com, and was the Rangers' No. 5 prospect, according to Baseball America. The 22-year-old catcher, however, has been sidelined since June 10th with an ankle injury.

Alfaro hit .253 in 49 games this season at double before getting hurt.

Alec Asher, 23, right-handed pitcher

Promoted to triple-A early in the season, Asher has as a 4.73 ERA in 12 starts, with 54 strikeouts and 19 walks.

Jerad Eickhoff, 25, right-handed pitcher

Eickhoff, who was promoted to triple-A this season, posted a 4.25 ERA in 17 starts.
