2nd Housekeeper Charged With Stealing Jewelry From Elderly Woman In East Goshen Township
EAST GOSHEN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) – A Philadelphia housekeeper was arrested Thursday for jewelry theft at an East Goshen Township residence.
Nijah Curtis, 34, was charged with stealing approximately $2,000 worth of jewelry from an 83- year-old resident of Hershey's Mill.
On September 17th, the victim reported a jewelry theft from her home to police. The victim told officers that a gold ring and gold bracelet were missing from her home. There was no sign of forced entry and the only person with access to her home was the cleaners.
On Thursday, detectives conducted surveillance when the two cleaners arrived to the victim's home. During the surveillance, detectives determined that a member of the cleaning pair took jewelry from the victim's dresser.
When the male cleaner exited the residence, detectives approached the individual and recovered four pieces of gold jewelry.
Detectives charged Curtis with two counts of theft by unlawful taking and two counts of receiving stolen property.
During the investigation, detectives determined that Curtis was responsible for the first theft that was reported on September 17th. Detectives do not believe that the second cleaning person had any involvement in the thefts or participation in the thefts.
Curtis was arraigned in court and bail was set at $5,000.
Curtis was turned over to Delaware County Constables because he was wanted by the East Lansdowne Police Department on criminal charges.
This is the second arrest in the past week by the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department involving a cleaner taking jewelry while providing a cleaning service in East Goshen Township.
