'X-Men: First Class' Powers To Top Of Box Office

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The big summer movie season continues in full force.

The X-Men franchise has been revived as the prequel X-Men: First Class opened with an estimated opening weekend take of $56-million.

Last weekend's runaway leader, The Hangover Part II, followed its big Memorial Day weekend with a second-weekend total of $32-million, good for a solid second place.

The third and fourth spots were filled by holdover sequels. Kung Fu Panda 2 took in $24-million, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides $18-million.

The comedy Bridesmaids placed fifth with $12-million.

Overall, it was a third straight strong weekend at the box office as the summer movie season continues to fulfill expectations and exceed totals of the corresponding weekends last year.
