'Voyage For Autism Awareness' Sets Sail This Saturday
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A Philadelphia Fire Captain will row for autism next week. It's called "Voyage for Autism Awareness" and will make its way from Washington DC to New York City on rivers and canals.
Captain Neil Calore (pictured, right) wants to complete the journey in a homemade sailboat in about two weeks. The route goes from the Chesapeake Bay up to the Delaware Canal, then north. The boat will be pulled out of the water for six miles and put back into the Delaware-Raritan canal, then into the Raritan River to New York.
"I have dear friends that are very involved with helping families affected by the autism spectrum, and they are an inspiration and you just want to do something to help these people and their families."
Calore has gotten strong support from fire fighters and marine units all along the route. He wants to raise over $57-thousand. He sets sail next Saturday.
