There are major problems on Amtrak, this morning.
The 38-foot boat, "Reel Fun," left Ocean City, Md. on Saturday morning and was expected in Chincoteague, on Virginia's eastern shore, that night.
Amtrak has been ordered by Congress to slash its $8-million annual subsidy for the Philadelphia-to-Harrisburg "Keystone" route.
"We simply do not have the space in Philadelphia to allow for safe operation of these vehicles and to create a buffer to help prevent community and environmental disruptions," said parks commissioner Michael Diberardinis.
Lawmakers held a hearing about a 2007 state law that requires the turnpike to borrow hundreds of millions a year for roads and mass transit.
"The turnpike, quite frankly, isn't going to survive if this continues," Pennsylvania auditor general Jack Wagner told legislators.
Amtrak is going to break the speed limit this week in the Northeast Corridor.
Numbered streets from Front to Fourth are being closed at various times for repaving, and it's expected to continue for a few more weeks at least.
The outer southbound lanes of the Roosevelt Boulevard were closed for several hours while crews repaired the damage leftover from a water main break in the Northeast.
The agency -- which already operates the New York area's three major airports plus bridges and tunnels and the World Trade Center -- will look into environmental, financial, and legal issues involved in a possible takeover.
