Zoning Ordinance Threatens Family Rabbit In North Haven

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Zoning issues could force one Connecticut family to get rid of their pet.

The Lidsky family of North Haven was issued a cease-and-desist order after a Zoning Enforcement Officer said the pet rabbit housed in the backyard violated a town zoning regulation , WCBS 880's Irene Cornell reported.

The family property is smaller than the 2 acre plot required for permanent livestock, Cornell reported.

The officer was sent to the Lidsky home to follow up on neighbor's complaints about blighted conditions on the property.

Josh Lidsky admitted that he has had issues with the town in the past, such as unpaid back taxes, but says the bunny should be allowed to stay.

"I want the town to leave me alone about my bunny. Wherever my bunny decides to reside on my property, my bunny should be able to reside on that piece of property," Lidsky told Cornell.

Town officials have insisted they are not about to remove the pet. They simply want Lidsky to pay up his taxes, clean up his yard and comply with town ordinances.

Lidsky said he plans to appeal the order to the town's Zoning Board of Appeals.
