Twitter Aflame In Wake Of Weiner's Latest Sexting Allegations
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Comedians – as well as everyday Twitter users – were having a field day Tuesday evening in the wake of the latest sexting revelations involving New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner.
As of around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Weiner's name, as well as the hashtag "#CarlosDanger," were among the top Twitter trends. "Carlos Danger" was the screen name Weiner used as he exchanged explicit messages with an unidentified 22-year-old woman after resigning from Congress in the midst of a sexting scandal, according to the Web site "The Dirty."
The comedians who weighed in on the issue poked fun in particular at the "Carlos Danger" name.

Meanwhile, the website Slate.com created a "get my name" generator for sobriquets like Weiner's "Carlos Danger" handle. Several celebrities, columnists and bloggers tweeted the names the Slate generator provided for them.

Weiner and his wife, Huma Abedin, appeared at a news conference late Tuesday afternoon to address the allegations.
"I have said that other texts and photos were likely to come out, and today they have. As I have said in the past, these things that I did were wrong and hurtful to my wife and caused us to go through challenges in our marriage that extended past my resignation from Congress. While some things that have been posted today are true and some are not, there is no question that what I did was wrong," Weiner said in part.
But he said he will not be withdrawing from the mayoral race, as some opponents have demanded.
The latest sexting allegations hit the headlines when a woman claimed anonymously this week to "The Dirty" that she exchanged lewd photos and had explicit phone conversations with Weiner. She said the messaging took place after the scandal that led him to resign from Congress in 2011.
The woman told the website she was 22 when Weiner began the online relationship. Site editor Nik Ritchie wrote that the woman claimed Weiner and the woman "had a relationship for six months, and she believed they were in love."
Many of the texts between Weiner and the woman went into graphic details about imagined sex acts between Weiner and the woman – using explicit terms for genitals and sex acts, "The Dirty" reported.
The relationship reportedly continued into last summer, CBS 2's Marcia Kramer reported.
