Report: Trump Cancels On Letterman Over Racism Accusation

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It appears Donald Trump has had enough of David Letterman.

Last week the "Late Show" host had some rather unflattering words for "The Donald" regarding his birth certificate witch hunt against President Barack Obama.

On Friday, the real estate mogul fired back, reportedly canceling his upcoming appearance on the CBS late-night show. Trump will not appear as scheduled on May 18. According to a letter published in the New York Post, Trump is "disappointed to hear the statements you made about me last night on your show that I was a 'racist.' … In actuality, nothing could be further from the truth and there is nobody who is less of a racist than Donald Trump."

Letterman's words stem from an interview with Dr. Phil McGraw, during which the two discussed Trump's claim that President Obama was unfairly accepted into Harvard Law School.

"It's all fun, it's all a circus, it's all a rodeo, until it starts to smack of racism. And then it's no longer fun," Letterman reportedly told Dr. Phil.

According to The Post, Trump also said, "Based upon your statements, and despite the fact that we have always done so well together, especially in your ratings, I am canceling my May 18th appearance on your show.

"Additionally," Trump wrote, "please inform your staff that I will likewise not do the 'top ten' list that they had been trying to set up."

President Obama surprised many by releasing the long form of his birth certificate to the media on Friday. That immediately led to many asking for his college records, which precipitated Letterman's interview with Dr. Phil.

There has been speculation that Trump will seek the Republican nomination for president in 2012. So far he's been non-committal but has hinted on making a decision before the summer.

New Yorkers have been highly critical of the creator of the popular television series, "The Apprentice," chastising Trump for his entire "birther" campaign.
