'My TSA' App Helps You Figure Out What You Can Bring

NEWARK, NJ (WCBS 880) - As we approach the busiest travel day of the year - the day before Thanksgiving - there is a new tool to help you get through airport security with fewer hassles.

WCBS 880's Levon Putney On The Story

Some items obviously won't get through airport security, such as a plastic toy gun, even with an orange cap on the barrel's tip.

"The x-ray machine doesn't see orange. It sees a gun," said Transportation Security Administration spokesperson Lisa Farbstein.

Others are not so obvious, such as a socket wrench.

"No tools over 7" from end to end are permitted," she told WCBS 880 reporter Levon Putney.

Now, the TSA has a handy app to help you figure out if you can take something on board with you.

It's free and called My TSA. It's available now for iPhone.
