Metro-North Tests Safety Measures Prompted By Deadly 2013 Derailment

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Metro-North is testing new safety measures -- installing cameras to monitor key areas, and deter crime.

The move came in response to federal recommendations following the 2013 Spuyten Duyvil derailment.

Four people were killed and 70 others injured when the engineer fell asleep at the controls.

Metro-North officials said the cameras will monitor the engineer's control area, track, and passenger areas.

They're being tested on some Harlem and Hudson line trains.
