Long Island's Sarah Grace Foundation Helps Families With Children Battling Cancer
HICKSVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - A charity on Long Island is helping give some piece of mind to families whose children are battling cancer.
Matt Weippert remembers the happy times with his daughter, Sarah.
"[Sarah and I] traveled every weekend that we could from April to October," Weippert told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall.

Tragically, Sarah died of leukemia at the age of 12, just nine months after she was diagnosed. And in an effort to help other families, the Weipperts started the Sarah Grace Foundation, which provides gift cards for food, parking at the hospitals and transportation for those families whose children are battling cancer.
"If you go into any cafeteria or coffee shop in a hospital, it's a lot of money to buy food," Weippert said. "Or you're parking at the hospital, and then there is the transportation back and forth. And in the Fall, around Thanksgiving, we have our holiday-meal program, and based on referrals we'll provide gift cards for all supermarkets."
The charity also provides care for siblings while a child is in the hospital. On June 1st and 2nd, a fundraiser -- named A Night of Improv -- will be held for the organization in Hicksville, Long Island.
