Empire State Building To Light Up Red Or Blue Depending On Who Wins Election

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - For those folks who have a view of the Manhattan skyline, there will be another way to keep track of who won the presidential election.

Just look out your window.

The top of the Empire State Building will turn red if Mitt Romney wins and blue if President Barack Obama is re-elected.

The building's website touts tonight's illumination as a "special lighting" in honor of election day.

It's also one of the first uses of the building's elaborate new LED lighting system.

The top of the iconic building often changes colors in honor of various events. Recently it was orange, black and white in honor of Halloween. It will be red, white and blue for Veteran's Day. There was controversy when the building opted to not display colors to honor Mother Teresa.
