NEW YORK -- Cold weather is coming, and that could mean a proper tune-up for your car, including checking its tire pressure.

AAA's Robert Sinclair Jr. shared some advice for the critical safety step.

"Tire failure was responsible for about 1,700 crashes -- 1,770 to be exact -- in New York last year. It was responsible for 375 injures and unfortunately three fatalities. Across the nation, the total is more than 600, in the average year, people that are killed because of tire failure," he explained. "It's usually due to underinflation. As the weather gets colder, we know from elementary school science that heat expands and cold contracts, and that applies to the air inside tires."

We asked him about the accuracy of warning lights and the danger of blowing tires while driving. He also spoke about specific risks for buses and trucks.
