Brooklyn Artist Transforms Brownstone Into Beautiful Mosaic Masterpiece

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- In Brooklyn, not far off the Bergen Street stop on the F or G line, you'll discover a hidden gem.

In fact, many people go out of their way to see it and take pictures.

As CBS2's Alex Denis reported, 108 Wycoff Street isn't your typical Brooklyn brownstone. It draws people from all over to its front door.

"I do tend, when I'm walking in this direction, to walk down this block on this side just to kinda pass it," Ellen Faye said.

Artist and owner Susan Gardner began working on the display as therapy following the 9/11 attacks. It has since become a wall of hope and beauty.

Neighbors said it started with a few flowers made from glass tiles and from there it blossomed into a mosaic masterpiece, her public museum of art.

If you look closely, you'll spot buttons, sea shells, figurines, even CDs.

Susan Kaplan lives a few doors down, and has watched the constantly changing art evolve.

"It's spectacular the way the sun shines off of it, or the way the sun is going down. It's a different piece of art every time of day," she said.

Despite 15 years in the making, Kaplan's favorite part remains the same -- the happy dancing couple.

"I think that's what she's trying to represent, that joyfulness. I love that, and I admire it," Kaplan said.

The same whimsical way Kaplan's artist friend transformed the block.

"She's lovely, she's dynamic, a very dedicated artist," Kaplan said.

Everyone CBS2's Denis spoke to agreed.

Gardner encourages everyone to start gluing thins to their house. She's now working on a mother earth figure to add to the front stoop.
