NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A Bronx woman was arrested on Friday for allegedly neglecting and starving her two seven-month-old pit bulls, according to a statement from The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Back on February 17, Humane Law Enforcement agents responded to a complaint that Gillian Irving's two dogs -- Cagney and Lacey -- were being neglected, the statement said. The agents took the dogs, and upon investigation ASPCA veterinarians concluded that the pit bulls had been starved -- Cagney weighed 16.4 pounds and Lacey just 15.2 pounds.
After receiving treatment and being taken care of properly, ASPCA officials confirmed, Cagney and Lacey now weigh 27.1 pounds and 26.9 pounds, respectively.
Irving, 27, is charged with two counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty, ASPCA said.
Irving's arrest marks the third arrest for animal cruelty this year in the Bronx, and the 16th in New York City, ASPCA confirmed.
