Zendaya responds to Giuliana Rancic about her Oscars hair

Zendaya is speaking out about comments Giuliana Rancic made about her hair during the Oscars red carpet.

The 40-year-old "Fashion Police" host said Sunday that Zendaya's hair must smell like "patchouli" and "weed," which sparked plenty of comments on social media -- and later prompted Zendaya, 18, to defend her look on Instagram.

"There is a fine line between what is funny and disrespectful," the actress wrote. "Someone said something about my hair at the Oscars that left me in awe. Not because I was relishing in rave outfit reviews, but because I was hit with ignorant slurs and pure disrespect," she wrote.

"To say that an 18-year-old young woman with locs must smell of patchouli oil or 'weed' is not only a large stereotype but outrageously offensive. I don't usually feel the need to respond to negative things but certain remarks cannot go unchecked," Zendaya added.

For her part, Rancic apologized early Tuesday for offending anyone:

Zendaya stars in "K.C. Undercover" and previously appeared in the Disney Channel's "Shake It Up!" series.
