Prince William celebrates his 29th birthday

(CBS/AP) LONDON - After the pomp and circumstance of his wedding and a participating in a host of official royal events, Prince William is celebrating his 29th birthday at work.

The prince, a helicopter search-and-rescue pilot in the Royal Air Force, is on duty at a base in Anglesey, north Wales, and is expected to mark his birthday privately.

But there was some official recognition of the milestone - the official Twitter account of London's Westminster Abbey, where William married the former Kate Middleton on April 29, posted that "The Abbey bells are ringing to mark the birthday of the Duke of Cambridge."

William is due to travel to Canada and the United States next month on his first official overseas trip as a married man.

He and the Duchess of Cambridge will visit the provinces of Ontario, Quebec, Prince Edward Island and Alberta, as well as the vast Northwest Territories during the visit, from June 30-July 8, followed by a three-day visit to the Los Angeles area.

William's grandfather, Prince Philip, recentlycelebrated his 90th birthday with a full day of official engagements.
