Passage: Best in Show

(CBS News) It happened this week . . . a historic moment at the prestigious Westminister Kennel Club Dog Show.

In a first for the breed, a five-year-old Affenpinscher named Banana Joe was named Best In Show, defeating six competitors in the final round, including an English Sheepdog named Swagger . . . a Portuguese Water Dog named Matisse... a Bichon Frise who answers to Honor . . . a German Wirehaired Pointer who goes by Oakley . . . an American foxhound by the name of Jewel . . . and let's not forget Adam, the Smooth Fox Terrier.

Swagger may have been the favorite of the crowd, but in the end it was Banana Joe who took home the swag.

And his victory lap at New York's Madison Square Garden Tuesday night was just the beginning of the celebration.

In the days that followed Banana Joe was treated to a steak dinner at Sardi's. He helped ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange . . . and performed (for one night only) in the Broadway musical "The Mystery of Edwin Drood."

Talk about a Best In Show!
