Naked in Newburgh, Running in Traffic, Tasered Four Times (Not so Shocking, Really)
NEWBURGH, N.Y. (CBS/AP) Does it seem like a lot of naked people are getting tasered lately?
(Or is it only if you're one of them?)
Police in Newburgh, N.Y., about 60 miles north of New York City, say it took four officers -- and four jolts from a Taser -- to subdue a man found running naked through traffic, high on the hallucinogen PCP.
The reports of a guy running naked through Newburgh started coming in Tuesday night, and took note of the fact that "Naked in Newburgh" was, at least, wearing sneakers.
Officers spotted vehicles swerving and then saw the man. Police say he refused to obey instructions, ran at them and shouted, "Give it to me!," when an officer unholstered a Taser. They say he fell when hit with the first jolt, then jumped back up and began trying to yank out the Taser darts.
He was shocked again, struggled with officers trying to handcuff him, and they shocked him twice more.
"Naked-in-Newburgh-except-for-his-sneakers" was taken to a hospital for treatment. His name was not released.
