Jimmy Kimmel and girlfriend get engaged

(CBS News) Jimmy Kimmel and his girlfriend, Molly McNearney, are engaged.

People reports that the 44-year-old late-night TV host popped the question to McNearney, a co-head writer on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," while on a trip to South Africa's Kruger National Forest.

The couple have been dating since 2009. This is the first marriage for McNearney, 34, and the second for Kimmel. He was married to Gina Kimmel from 1998-2003. They have two children.

Prior to dating McNearney, Kimmel and Sarah Silverman were an item. They ended their five-year romance in 2008.

Kimmel will host the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 23. In April, he was the featured comedian at the 98th annual White House Correspondents' Dinner.
