Jesse Tyler Ferguson marries Justin Mikita

Jesse Tyler Ferguson is now a married man.

The "Modern Family" star and current Emmy nominee tied the knot with lawyer Justin Mikita in New York on Saturday.

Ferguson, 37, and Mikita, 27, had announced their engagement in September 2012.

The couple live in California, but they held the wedding in Manhattan as same-sex marriages were still illegal in the Golden State as they were planning their big day.

Tony Award-winning playwright and screenwriter Tony Kushner officiated the ceremony, People reports. Notable guests attending the reception included Padma Lakshi, Nigel Lythgoe and Ferguson's "Modern Family" co-star and on-screen sister Julie Bowen, who shared her thoughts of the occasion on Twitter with the #bestweddingever hashtag:

Their 15-year-old co-star Ariel Winter also attended the ceremony:

Some of Ferguson's other "Modern Family" co-stars also took to Twitter to send out their well wishes:

In lieu of gifts, Ferguson and Mikita asked their wedding guests to instead make contributions to Tie The Knot, a neckwear line they founded to help promote civil rights for gays and lesbians in the U.S. The couple filmed a video together in September to help explain the goals of the organization:
