ORLANDO, Fla. -- Selfie-sticks in Disney parks are no more, CBS affiliate Orlando WKMG reports.

Walt Disney World said Friday it will ban the selfie-stick poles, that hold smartphones to take photos, starting next week because of safety concerns at its parks.

On Wednesday roller-coaster riders at Disneyland in California were stopped mid-ride when a fellow passenger pulled out a selfie-stick, CBS Los Angeles station KCAL reported.

The new park policy will be implemented Tuesday and will apply to Disney's theme parks, water parks and DisneyQuest, a gaming attraction at Downtown Disney, WKMG reports. Visitors will not be able to bring their selfie-sticks beyond the bag check.

The ban will also include Disneyland and Disney parks in Paris and Hong Kong at a later date.

"We strive to provide a great experience for the entire family, and unfortunately, selfie-sticks have become a growing safety concern for both our guests and cast," Disney spokeswoman Kim Prunty said.

Disney is not the only Florida park banning the selfie-sticks. Universal Orlando banned them from certain rides, but does not have a park-wide ban at this time.
