George H.W. Bush's latest socks feature a familiar face

Former President George H.W. Bush is not shy about his socks.

For instance, at his son George W. Bush's portrait unveiling at the White House last year, the elder Bush wore red, white and blue striped socks. At the George W. Bush library dedication earlier this year his socks were bright pink with blue accents.

In June, his office emailed a photo of the former president donning Superman socks - a gift from a friend, according to his office - while driving a golf cart.

And in the latest chapter of "which wacky socks will Bush 41 wear," the former president donned a pair featuring his own mug.

Accepting the Lyndon B. Johnson award at his office in Houston, Mr. Bush, accompanied by his wife Barbara and Johnson's daughters, showed off the socks featuring his smiling face, according to a Tweet sent by his spokesman.

In April, Barbara Bush humorously explained his sock habit.

"George has taken to wearing the weirdest socks," she said. "The most colorful, the most wacky. They're better if they're terrible."
