Brad Pitt hires attorney Lance Spiegel for divorce battle
The Brangelina split is getting serious, as Brad Pitt has enlisted some high-powered help in his upcoming legal fight against Angelina Jolie.
Pitt has hired Lance Spiegel, a renowned Beverly Hills family law attorney who has counseled clients such as Eva Longoria, Russell Simmons and Heather Locklear, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Spiegel, a partner at Young Spiegel & Lee, did a not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Jolie filed for divorce Tuesday, a move that reportedly caught Pitt’s team off-guard. And in the days following the filing, stories have surfaced alleging questionable behavior on Pitt’s part.
The Los Angeles Police Department, at least, were quick to dispel a rumor that Pitt was under investigation for alleged child abuse. “We have no criminal investigation that we are actively pursuing,” an LAPD spokesman said. “We are not investigating any case, nor do we have any allegations against Mr. Pitt. We understand how rumors get spun up, and hopefully we can put a few of them to rest. We have no investigation involving Mr. Pitt.”
That doesn’t mean the story is going away just yet, as the FBI released a statement that it was still evaluating the situation.
“In response to your inquiry regarding allegations within the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States; specifically, an aircraft carrying Mr. Brad Pitt and his children, the FBI is continuing to gather facts and will evaluate whether an investigation at the federal level will be pursued,” the statement read.
Following the unexpected news of the divorce filing Tuesday, Pitt released a statement saying, “I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”
