The Minnesota Wild is getting ready to kick off its annual "Movember" campaign starting Nov. 1. It's a campaign where men both young and old give their beards and mustaches a clean shave to start the month, then let it grow throughout November while raising money and awareness for prostate cancer research.
When the NHL schedule came out this past summer the Minnesota Wild knew they had their work cut out for them. Eight of their first nine games were against teams that made the playoffs last season. A strong start could give the Wild an edge in the Central Division while a slow start could derail their playoff hopes before the month was even finished.
Mikko Koivu and Jason Pominville scored in the shootout and the Minnesota Wild beat the San Jose Sharks 4-3 Thursday night. Kyle Brodziak scored twice in the third period and Koivu in the second period for Minnesota, which for the second straight game overcame a 3-1 third-period deficit to win.

Referee Dave Lewis has left Minnesota's game at Boston after he was hit in the face with a puck. Lewis was hit in the first period Tuesday night. The NHL issued a statement at the second intermission saying Lewis was being evaluated by medical personnel and would not return.

Kuemper has allowed just two goals in four starts, and has all three of Minnesota's victories this season. Arizona's Mike Smith entered the game having allowed at least four goals in each of his three starts this season. But he stopped 27 of 29 shots and blanked the Wild for all but a three-minute stretch early in the second period.
The Minnesota Wild have agreed to terms on a five-year, $16 million contract extension with right wing Charlie Coyle through the 2019-20 season. The deal was announced Wednesday for the 22-year-old Coyle, who is in third season with the Wild.
