Nine of the Gopher men's basketball team's 13 non-conference games for the 2013-14 season will be played within the friendly confines of Williams Arena. Game times and TV rights will be released by the Big Ten Conference at a later date.
The official 2014 All-Star Game logo has plenty of Twins-tendencies. Focusing on the iconic ballpark structure that stands within the shadow of downtown Minneapolis, the Minnesota Twins' core colors of navy and red combine on the logo with a blue sky and tan-colored skyline which harkens to the locally quarried limestone used throughout Target Field.
Harrison Smith's rookie season was marked by hard-hitting play, three interceptions and two defensive touchdowns. His intense style gave the secondary a big boost. It also yielded one ejection and a $21,000 fine. But Minnesota Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said he never saw his young safety back down from the pressure of being a starter on a playoff team.
Minnesota wide receiver Devin Crawford-Tufts won't play for the football team this season, to focus on track and field instead.
If you head over to Palmer field at O'Shaughnessy Stadium it's pretty quiet these days. That one loss prevented St. Thomas from winning its first national championship.
The Minnesota Twins have reinstated catcher Joe Mauer from the restricted list after a six-game absence for the birth of his twin daughters. The move was made on Monday. Minnesota Vikings training camp is underway in Mankato and a lot of eyes will be on quarterback Christian Ponder over the next several weeks. After hitting a two-run homer in the previous inning, Colabello was robbed of a three-run shot by Seattle right fielder Endy Chavez and the Mariners held on to beat the Twins 6-4.
The first week of training camp is an adjustment for everybody, leaving that offseason mindset behind and focusing entirely on football. For the new guys on the team, that adjustment is even bigger. But two days in to training camp, Packer linebacker Desmond Bishop feels like he's off to a good start. "It feels good. I never thought I'd look so good in purple," Bishop said. "I think I look pretty handsome."
The Fond Du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa joined forces with the Minnesota National Guard and the Minnesota Swarm this week to bring the game of lacrosse to young people. Lacrosse, a sport of Native American origin, is growing in popularity in high schools around the country.

It was the fifth shutout of the season for Minnesota, which has won four of its last six games and is 6-3 since the All Star break. Brad Miller and Kyle Seager each had two hits for Seattle, which has lost three of four.
Desmond Bishop's first practice with the Minnesota Vikings was also his first in almost a year. The recently signed linebacker missed last season with Green Bay because of a torn right hamstring, an injury he suffered in an exhibition game. The Packers cut him last month, and he joined the rival Vikings soon after.
Everything on Friday was the usual for Adam Thielen. He donned purple football gear and went out to practice on the very field – the Minnesota State University, Mankato – where he'd spent the last five years solidifying himself as one of the best Maverick wideouts ever. The one difference on Friday was, this time he did it as a pro.
