Alec Brown had 15 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks on Saturday night to lead Green Bay in a dominating effort against Minnesota-Duluth 92-57. Green Bay (2-1) coach Brian Wardle subbed Brown out late in the game when he was just shy of the triple-double with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 9 blocks. But Kenneth Lowe fouled out and Brown returned to the game to get the block and rebound. It was the first triple-double by a Phoenix player since Javier Mendiburu on Feb. 5, 2005. Keifer Sykes shot 8 of 9 from the field and 5 of 5 from the line to finish with a game-high 21 points. Vincent Garrett added 15 and Carrington Love had career-high 13 points.
Aaron Brooks scored a season-high 26 points to pick up the slack for the injured James Harden, and the Houston Rockets beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 112-101 on Saturday night. The Rockets led throughout, and Omri Casspi, Jeremy Lin and Brooks made consecutive 3-pointers in a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter and extend the lead to 91-74. Harden, who leads the Rockets with 24.2 points per game, sat out with a sore left foot. Lin started in his place and scored 19, but it was Brooks who shined.
More than 53,000 fans filled TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis for the coldest game of the season. Temperatures were in the teens, but it felt like five degrees outside thanks to the wind chill. Folks tailgating before the game set up tents, propane tanks and heat lamps to help stay warm, along with lots of hot food. No matter the conditions, Gopher and Badger fans didn't let Mother Nature take away from the biggest border battle of the season.
James White rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown and No. 16 Wisconsin beat Minnesota for the 10th straight time in a 20-7 victory on Saturday. Jared Abbrederis had seven catches for 67 yards and a touchdown and Chris Borland recovered two fumbles and forced one to tie the NCAA record for career fumbles caused. After the game, the Badgers (9-2, 6-1 Big Ten) hoisted Paul Bunyan's Axe and used it to chop the Gophers goal post when the time ran out.
Charlie Coyle scored in the fourth round of the shootout to give the Minnesota Wild a 3-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday. Coyle deked before beating Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec. Minnesota is 15-5-4 and has won six of its past seven games and is 9-1-1 in November. The loss extended Winnipeg's losing streak to four games (0-2-2). It was the Jets' eighth shootout of the season and third loss. Mikko Koivu also scored on Pavelec in the shootout. Bryan Little beat Niklas Backstrom.
Kevin Garnett sat in the visitor's locker room at Target Center, searching for answers to difficult questions after yet another disheartening loss by his Brooklyn Nets. Just down the hall, Minnesota's Kevin Love got dressed a few feet from the locker that Garnett called home for 12 years. And while he was trying to be respectful of the player that put the Timberwolves franchise on the map, Love delivered the hard truth that has dropped like an anvil on Garnett and the $190 million Brooklyn Nets this season. "I joked with (Kevin Martin) tonight that I'm glad I didn't have to guard him in his prime," Love said after needing just three quarters to bury KG and the Nets en route to a 30-point victory Friday night. "Because he was something else. He's a Hall of Fame player. He's the Big Ticket."
