Macura scored 43 points and Connor Flack's bank shot in the lane gave the Panthers the lead for good with 18 seconds left in an 84-82 victory over Hopkins in the Class 4A boys state championship game Saturday night, the program's first title. "I wanted to leave everything out on the floor," said Macura, who will play at Xavier University next season.
The Minnesota Vikings will keep their offensive line intact for the third straight year by bringing left guard Charlie Johnson back to the group. Johnson and the Vikings agreed to terms Saturday on a two-year contract worth as much as $5 million, according to two people with direct knowledge of the deal who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team has not yet announced the deal.
Ryan Johansen scored a disputed goal in the fourth round of the shootout to lift the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night. Johansen's shot initially was ruled a rebound, but a video review showed that Wild goalie Darcy Kuemper did not touch the puck, making it a legal shootout goal.
Minnesota icon and sports journalist Sid Hartman turned 94 Saturday, and the celebration will continue this summer. The Minnesota Twins, along with the Star Tribune and WCCO Radio, will honor Hartman with a pregame ceremony on Sunday, May 18
Jack Jablonski, the 16-year-old high school hockey player who was paralyzed during a game in 2012, received a major honor Saturday. Minneapolis Youth Hockey retired Jablonski's jersey number, 13. In 2012, a check from behind left Jablonski paralyzed.
For Reid Travis, his basketball career has only begun. Still, his last game for DeLaSalle was hard to let go. Finishing with a third straight state championship, then, was the way to do it. After blowing an early double-digit lead, the top-ranked Jaguars (31-1) won their second state title in three years thanks to Goodwin's poise in the final 10 minutes. Down 34-30 with 10:33 to play, Goodwin fueled a 13-5 game-deciding run that included seven-consecutive free throws.
