Worker killed while trimming tree in Apple Valley, 1 in custody

One person is in custody after a 26-year-old man died while trimming a tree in Apple Valley on Thursday evening.

Apple Valley police say the tree trimming crew was working on a home on the 5200 block of 132nd Street West around 7:10 p.m. One of the workers suffered a head injury, a caller said. Police determined the man was dead when they arrived at the scene.

The worker who was operating the equipment at the time was arrested for second-degree manslaughter and taken into custody.

Authorities say they'll release the name of the victim after his next of kin is notified.

Officials from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will investigate the incident, police say.
