6 dead, including child, in small plane crash near Wisconsin Dells, sheriff says
Six people are dead, including a child, in a small plane crash Tuesday night in south-central Wisconsin, according to Sauk County Sheriff's Office.
The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. in a "densely-wooded area" in the Town of Dellona, about 10 miles southwest of Wisconsin Dells.
Authorities say the plane was making a return trip from Kenosha to Menomonie in a fixed-wing Piper, and the pilot "was reported to be in contact with a nearby air traffic control tower" before the crash.
The remains of all six victims were located, and authorities say their identities will be released at a later time.
"Investigators are working to learn what the content of those transmissions were and if a weather event in the area may have played any role in the crash," the sheriff's office said.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board will be aiding in the investigation, the sheriff's office says.
