Missing 83-Year-Old Man Donald Wieberdink Found Alive In Kandiyohi County

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's office says 83-year-old Donald Wieberdink was found alive early Wednesday evening after going missing during a bicycle ride Tuesday afternoon in Spicer.

Wieberdink was found at about 5:24 p.m. on the 11000 block of Northeast County Road 4, just east of Spicer. Sheriff Eric Hollen says Wieberdink was barefoot and had suffered some sunburn, but was "in good spirits." He was taken to Rice Hospital in Willmar. His condition has not been released.

More than two dozen law enforcement agencies and fire departments assisted in the search effort. Sheriff Hollen says his department was awestruck by the outpouring of support from the community to find Wieberdink, including the donation of drones, food and water, and the use of privately-owned ATVs.

"We truly live in a great community which steps up and helps each other in times of need," Hollen said.

The sheriff's office said Wieberdink stopped at a farm site east of Spicer Tuesday afternoon to ask for directions, and was later seen on his bicycle near the intersection of County Road 2 and County Road 10 in Harrison Township.
