Volunteers Gather To Clean Up Brooklyn Center Little League Park

BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. (WCCO) -- Volunteers are helping clean up piles of garbage in Brooklyn Center so little league teams can play ball on the diamond nearby.

Someone had been dumping tons of debris at Thurs Park, and the little league was worried it might have to pay thousands to get it out of there. But this weekend, employees of Bituminous Roadways and Barton Sand and Gravel are doing it for free.

Little League officials say they're upgrading the security system at the park, so they'll have evidence if it ever happens again.

"It is awesome. They are donating their time, the companies are allowing them to use the company equipment for free and the gravel company is letting us dump as well. It's great for a league with no money. It's fantastic we can get anything done for free," Kristin Johnson with the Brooklyn Center Little League said.

The companies contacted the little league through their Facebook page. They said it took about 12 truckloads to haul everything out.
