Study: Half Of Overweight Kids Participate In Sports
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Taking part in sports may not be enough to keep young people from being overweight, according to a University of Minnesota study.
The study shows nearly half of overweight kids, ages 12 to 17, also take part in organized physical activities.
The researchers say they're findings show activity alone may not be enough to combat obesity.
They say the problem is what they call the high-calorie culture in youth sports.
Researchers blame snacks during games, sugary drinks, concession stands at games, and post-game fast food trips. They say all that junk food counteracts the physical activity.
