Two found dead after a garage fire in St. Paul
ST. PAUL, Minn. — Two people were found dead after flames broke out in a garage, according to St. Paul police.
Officials say the fire broke out at 12:20 p.m. Sunday at 1800 block of Sims Avenue.
Authorities say it started after at least one space heater tipped over and ignited surrounding materials. Flames allegedly blocked the service door to the garage.
"Heavy combustible content levels in the structure were a contributing factor to the heavy fire and smoke conditions," the St. Paul Fire Department said in a release Monday afternoon.
The fire has been ruled by authorities as accidental.
Investigators spoke with the homeowner who said her adult son and a friend lived in the garage, though the identities of the victims are still unknown.
The cause of death will be determined by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office.
Officials say this marks the first two fire fatalities for St. Paul in 2025.
City officials helped find temporary housing for everyone living in the home.
