Thursday marks the 7th annual National Beer Day.

Created in 2009 by Justin Smith in Richmond, Va., National Beer Day is the celebration of the signing of the Cullen-Harrison Act, according to

On April 7, 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the act which ended prohibition into law. It was the first day in 13 years people could drink alcohol again.

Beer is one of the oldest beverages in the world, dating back to ancient Egyptian civilizations. It is also one of the world's most widely consumed alcoholic beverages.

In fact, just after water and tea, it's the third most popular drink.

So, grab a frosty brew and indulge this Thursday!

Edina Grill is celebrating National Beer Day by offering any Freehouse pint or bowl of housemade beer cheese soup for $7.

In Maple Grove, Millstream Brewing is taking over 3 Squares Restaurant. Beer specials will be available all day and the brewer will be in the restaurant for a meet and greet at 5 p.m.

Also in Maple Grove, OMNI Brewing celebrating its half birthday! The celebration begins at 3 p.m. with the release of the Omnipotent Scotch Ale. A food truck will be at the brewery beginning at 5 p.m. and tours will also be offers.

Additionally, OMNI is unveiling its latest edition to the brewery – an 11-foot oil painting called "History of MN Brewing." The artist will be on hand beginning at 6 p.m. to discuss the piece.

And Red Cow is having a Tap Takeover! Beginning at 3 p.m. Alaskan Brewing will take over the taps at all Red Cow restaurants.
