Study: Minnesota 2nd Most Liberal State

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesota is only behind Washington in a ranking that shows the most liberal states, according to a study by The Hill.

The rankings were determined by history and voting trends in all 50 states, votes in recent presidential elections, breakdown of congressional delegations, the parties of the past three governors and control of the state legislatures.

According to the study, Minnesota earns its second place spot because the state voted for a democratic president in the last seven elections, has two democratic senators, five out of eight House representatives are Democrats, past three governors have been one Reform Party member (one republican and one democrat) and a Democratic-controlled legislature.

Following Washington and Minnesota on the list are Oregon, California, Rhode Island and New York.

On the other end of the spectrum, Alabama lists as the most conservative state with Alaska, Idaho, Kansas, Mississippi following.
