MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A contract worker is in the hospital after suffering a leg injury in a structure collapse in St. Paul Thursday morning, according to the St. Paul Fire Department.
St. Paul Fire Marshall Steve Zaccard says firefighters responded at around 10 a.m. to the structural collapse on 2116 Commonwealth Ave.
When firefighters arrived, they were made aware that contractors were working on the foundation for an addition to the back of a house when a 6-foot basement wall crumbled and collapsed onto a worker's leg.
The victim's coworkers were able to clear the rubble from his leg and pull him to safety by the time firefighters arrived. The victim was treated on scene and taken to Regions Hospital.
The city's structural engineer is currently on scene completing an evaluation and working to stabilize the structure, Zaccard said.
Zaccard is unsure if the person who lives in the home was inside the home at the time of the collapse.
