Stollings Brings Fast-Paced Style To Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — New coaches at major conference programs often inherit struggling teams.

That is not the case for Marlene Stollings at Minnesota.

Stollings was introduced Tuesday at a news conference for the 11th coach for the Gophers' women's program. Stollings spent the last two years at VCU.

With Minnesota, she'll have a pair of stars in guard Rachel Banham and center Amanda Zahui B. Banham led the Big Ten in scoring, and Zahui B was the top rebounder in the conference. The Gophers also have an incoming recruiting class highlighted by guard Carlie Wagner, the all-time leading high school scorer in the state.

Stollings will bring an up-tempo playing style to the Gophers. She pledged to make Williams Arena the "toughest environment in the nation" for visiting teams.
