St. Paul Man Sentenced For Drive-By Shooting Of Romantic Rival

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A St. Paul man was sentenced Thursday to 19 years in prison for trying to kill a romantic rival in a drive-by-shooting last summer.

The Dakota Attorney's office says 36-year-old Jorge Roman Vasquez was convicted of one count each of first-degree attempted murder, second-degree attempted murder via drive-by-shooting, second-degree assault and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Police says Vasquez, who had been recently released from prison, fired multiple rounds at a group of men who were standing outside of a West St. Paul apartment complex on Aug. 18, 2014.

One man -- who told police he was the intended target because of a romantic relationship with Vazquez's girlfriend when he was incarcerated -- was shot in the arm and leg.
