3 hurt in Minneapolis Metro Transit bus shooting; police say suspect ID'd, but still at large

Three people are in the hospital after an individual shot at a Metro Transit bus in north Minneapolis on Friday afternoon.

Officers responded to the shooting at 36th Avenue North and North Penn Avenue shortly before 3:30 p.m., according to the Metro Transit Police Department. They found three people on the bus who were injured, and all were taken to the hospital.

Investigators said the shooter was on the bus, but got off before shooting at it. On Saturday evening, police said the shooter is still at large, but they've "been identified through video surveillance footage captured on the bus."

Two of the victims are still hospitalized Saturday: one in critical but stable condition, and the other in stable condition, according to police.

"No amount of violent crime will be tolerated on our transit system," said Interim Police Chief Joe Dotseth. "We will continue working tirelessly alongside our partners to bring this suspect into custody so they can be held accountable for their actions."

Police said Saturday they "increased their presence in the area."

"It's worrisome because of where we live, but what can you do?" said Jeannie Roberts, who lives near the shooting scene.

The Minneapolis Police Department and the Minnesota Department of Public Safety are assisting Metro Transit police with the ongoing investigation.

Police are asking for anyone with information on this crime to call 612-349-7222.
